What's Inside?

We thought the insides seemed familiar and asking Corsair, it confirmed with us that the unit is built by Seasonic but tweaked by Corsair, although we can't help but notice the distinct similarities between this and the S12II.

It uses a quality Hitachi main capacitor rated to 85ºC, with 105ºC OST capacitors around elsewhere. Corsair forgoes the (pointless) single solid capped capacitor that Seasonic included.

Corsair uses the same ADDA fan as Seasonic, which is a ADDA AD1212MB-A71GL rated at 3.96W, 2,050RPM, 80.5CFM and 38dBA when pushed to full speed. In reality though, Corsair runs it at a fraction of this speed under "normal" load levels because 38dBA is considerably noisy, although having heard the PSU fully load, we can imagine it's approaching this value. Checking around the Corsair website and manual, there's no mention of the actual rated noise level though.

The layout is quite sparse, allowing for good ventilation around the components, and the heatsinks are certainly considerably larger than OCZ's ModXStream Pro, with plenty more surface area for cooling too.


Underneath the soldering quality is also excellent - it's very neat with no large blobs (just as we'd expect from Seasonic).
